Maui Sisstr Surf Day
On Wednesday July 10th, 2024 Sisstrs, Lara Claydon and Tasha Jahrmarkt, threw the first ever Sisstr Surf Day, to empower the female surf community on Maui and inspire the next generation. Learn more about the event from the Sisstrs below!
Lara Claydon Recap:
"Today was the first ever Sisstr Surf Day and wow what an incredible day it was for our first event. We had over fifteen girls and mothers out surfing smiling, laughing and just loving the ocean all together. The energy and encouragement between everyone was so amazing with girls not only stoked to surf with familiar friends but meeting and surfing with new ones as well."
"The pure joy from all the girls' smiles and laughs in the water during party waves, encouraging each other on waves while paddling back out you could not help but smile yourself. There were girls from 8 to 17 years old and mothers enjoying the fun and surfing themselves as well. There even was a parent cheer squad on the beach!"
"To see this vision of a Sisstr Surf Day come to life with such a postitive response was truly overwhelming in the best way possible as a dream of mine for a while. In addition, it was great to have it before one of our most renowned local Maui longboard contests, The Ole Longboard Classic giving the girls an opportunity to receive some coaching tips and some excitement in preparation."
"The girls were given an Aloha Collection goodie bag filled with Sisstr and other goodies plus a signed Sisstr poster by Tasha Jahmarkt and myself."
Tasha Jahrmarkt Recap:
"First Sisstr Surf event was such a heartfelt and inspiring day. When I was growing up on Maui, the circle of girls who surfed and competed was so small, really just a handful of us. So, to see so many girls not only surfing, but having so much fun and making friends while doing so is so amazing.
"It’s so easy to get lost in the competition and pressure and to bring all these girls together and remind them (and ourselves) to make it fun, and just surf…I think that’s really special."
"To me, the best part of the day was getting to witness the community these girls have built and are surrounded by, it makes me excited for future of women’s surfing. I’m very grateful to have been a part of such a great event and to Lara for making this all happen."
Special Thanks to Lara Claydon, Tasha Jahrmarkt, Caden Sconfienza and Seanna Clark.
